Amazon Clarifies No Tariff Labels on Main Site After White House Criticism Sparks Debate

Amazon's Clarification on Tariff Display Following White House Backlash

In response to recent criticism from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Amazon has clarified that it never intended to display import duties on its primary shopping platform. The controversy arose after Leavitt labeled the potential move as a "hostile and political action."

A spokesperson for Amazon explained to The Washington Post that the consideration to show import charges was solely for Amazon Haul, its discount storefront, and not for the main Amazon site. "This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties," the spokesperson stated.

Market Reaction to the News

Following the report, Amazon's shares experienced a slight downturn, trading 1.16% lower at $185.53 at 10:28 am ET, highlighting the sensitivity of the market to political and regulatory news.
