Amazon Clarifies Tariff Display Policy Amid White House Criticism, Shares Dip

Amazon's Tariff Display Controversy

Following sharp criticism from the White House, Amazon has clarified its stance on displaying import duties, stating it never intended to show such costs on its main shopping site. This announcement came after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt labeled the potential move as a "hostile and political action."

Clarification and Market Reaction

A spokesperson for Amazon explained to The Washington Post that the consideration to display import charges was only for Amazon Haul, its discount storefront, and not for the main Amazon site. "This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties," the spokesperson emphasized.

Shortly after the report was released, Amazon's shares experienced a slight dip, trading 1.16% lower at $185.53 by 10:28 am ET.
