Following backlash from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Amazon has clarified that it never intended to show import tariff costs on its primary shopping platform. This statement was made in response to Leavitt's description of such a move as a "hostile and political action."

Only Amazon Haul Considered Showing Import Charges

A spokesperson for Amazon explained to The Washington Post that the consideration to display import charges was limited to Amazon Haul, its discount storefront. "This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties," the spokesperson emphasized.

Impact on Amazon's Stock

Shortly after the report was released, Amazon's shares experienced a slight decline, trading 1.16% lower at $185.53 at 10:28 am ET.
