Amazon's Stance on Tariff Labels
In response to recent criticism from the White House, Amazon has clarified that it never intended to display import duties on its main shopping platform. This statement came after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt labeled the potential move as a "hostile and political action."
Clarification and Market Reaction
A spokesperson for Amazon explained to The Washington Post that the consideration of showing import charges was limited to Amazon Haul, its discount storefront. "This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties," the spokesperson emphasized. Following the report, Amazon's shares experienced a slight decline, trading 1.16% lower at $185.53.
