Major Power Outage Strikes Iberian Peninsula: Spain Begins Restoring Electricity

Restoration Efforts Underway

Spanish electricity grid operator Red Electrica announced on Monday that it has begun the process of restoring power in various regions of the country after a significant blackout affected the Iberian Peninsula.

"We are starting to recover power in the north and south of the peninsula, which is key to progressively meet the electricity supply," Red Electrica stated in a post on X. The operator emphasized that the restoration involves a gradual energization of the transmission grid as generation groups are coupled, and efforts to fully restore supply are ongoing.

Widespread Impact

Earlier reports from local media highlighted that the blackouts, whose cause remains unknown, impacted not only Spain and Portugal but also parts of France, leaving many without electricity.
