Speaking at a national workshop on World Veterinary Day, Baghel called for enhanced veterinary infrastructure and skilled professionals to support the livelihoods of millions.

Advancing Animal Health and Productivity

With over 536 million livestock, India leads globally in livestock population. Baghel highlighted the importance of indigenous breeds and the adoption of advanced technologies like sex-sorted semen and in vitro fertilization to enhance animal productivity. He also underscored digital initiatives such as the National Digital Livestock Mission for disease monitoring.

One Health Approach

The minister reaffirmed India's commitment to the One Health approach to combat zoonotic diseases, a vision praised by FAO Assistant Director-General Thanawat Tiensin. The theme for World Veterinary Day 2025, "Animal Health Takes a Team," reflects the need for collaborative efforts across sectors.

Call for Comprehensive Overhaul

Animal Husbandry Secretary Alka Upadhyaya pointed out the severe shortage of veterinary professionals despite technological advancements, urging a comprehensive overhaul of the veterinary ecosystem to meet future challenges.
