This move comes after recent worker protests at the plant, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of manufacturing in India.

Addressing Labor Concerns and Expanding Workforce

Following a five-week strike in September over wages and union recognition, Samsung has taken steps to address worker concerns. Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa, praised the investment as a vote of confidence in the state's labor force, with the expansion expected to create 100 new jobs.

Strategic Shift from Vietnam to India

Amid tariff uncertainties with the US, Samsung is considering relocating part of its smartphone production from Vietnam to India. With the capacity to produce up to 70 million smartphones annually, this shift could significantly boost India's export figures, with projections of nearly $10 billion worth of production moving to India.
