China's Stance on US Tariffs
The Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized on Thursday that China and the United States have not yet started any negotiations regarding the recent tariffs imposed on each other's exports.
Call for Respect and Dialogue
At a press conference, Guo urged the US to stop its "threats" if it genuinely seeks dialogue, stating that "respect is the condition" for such discussions. He criticized US President Donald Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods as a "tsunami" that breaches World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations.
US President's Remarks
This response follows President Trump's statement that the timing and scale of tariff reductions hinge on Beijing's actions, highlighting the ongoing tension between the two economic powerhouses.
