Taiwan's Urgent Appeal: Parliament Urged to Release $4.25 Billion Frozen Budget Amidst Constitutional Review

Government Seeks Constitutional Court Review

In a significant move, Taiwan's Cabinet Spokesperson Michelle Lee announced on Tuesday the government's plan to request the Parliament to unfreeze a substantial budget of T$138.1 billion ($4.25 billion). This decision comes amidst a backdrop of a constitutional court review concerning the approved budget and a controversial amendment that proposes to reallocate funds to local governments.

Call for Swift Action to Alleviate Public Hardships

Lee emphasized the cabinet's hope for the Legislative Yuan to expedite the unfreezing process. "The swift release of these funds is crucial to minimizing the difficulties and inconveniences faced by the public in their interactions with the administration," Lee stated in a social media post, highlighting the government's commitment to easing the burden on its citizens.
