Google Reaches Settlement with CCI Over Android TV Practices
In a landmark decision, Google has agreed to pay Rs 20.24 crore to the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to settle allegations of unfair business practices in the Android TV segment. This case marks the first to be resolved under the revised provisions of the Competition Act, which now includes settlement and commitment options.

Key Changes in Google's Business Practices
As part of the settlement, Google will offer a standalone license for the Play Store and Play Services for Android smart TVs in India, removing previous bundling requirements. Additionally, the requirement for Android Compatibility Commitments (ACC) for devices shipped without Google apps to India will be waived, allowing OEMs more flexibility.
Background of the Case
The case originated from a 2021 complaint, prompting a thorough investigation by the CCI. The regulator has now accepted Google's settlement proposal, signaling a significant shift in how tech companies operate in India's competitive market.
