Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has embarked on an 11-day official visit to the United States and Peru, aiming to deepen India's economic ties with global partners. Her itinerary includes key international meetings and bilateral engagements.

Engagements in the United States

During her stay in the US, Sitharaman will participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in Washington DC, and the 2nd G20 Finance ministers and central bank governors (FMCBG) Meeting. She is also set to deliver a keynote address at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution and meet with CEOs from top IT firms.

Bilateral Meetings and Discussions

Sitharaman will hold one-on-one meetings with counterparts from Argentina, Bahrain, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Discussions with leaders from major global institutions like the ADB, AIIB, and IMF are also on the agenda.

Visit to Peru: A First Official Engagement

The second leg of her journey takes her to Peru, marking her first official visit to the country. She will meet with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte and Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzén, focusing on enhancing collaboration in the mining sector to support India's resource security.

Strengthening Economic Partnerships

Sitharaman will chair the India-Peru Business Forum in Lima, engaging with business leaders from both nations. The visit underscores the growing economic partnership between India and Peru, particularly in the supply of critical minerals and precious metals.

Community Engagement

The trip will conclude with community events in San Francisco and Lima, where Sitharaman will interact with members of the Indian diaspora, highlighting the global Indian community's role in fostering international ties.
