UK Launches £5 Billion Lawsuit Against Google Over Alleged Search Market Monopoly

Google Faces Massive Legal Challenge in the UK

A landmark class action lawsuit has been filed against Google in the United Kingdom, accusing the tech behemoth of maintaining "near-total dominance" in the online search market. The lawsuit, presented to the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal, alleges that Google's practices have stifled competition and limited consumer choice.

Allegations of Market Abuse

The case, representing hundreds of thousands of UK-based organizations, claims that Google has abused its dominant position to the detriment of other potential competitors. Or Brook, an Associate Professor of Competition Law and Policy at the University of Leeds, is leading the charge, stating, "This class action is about holding Google accountable for its unlawful practices and seeking compensation on behalf of UK advertisers who have been overcharged."
