In a strategic move to bolster its electrification capabilities, Volkswagen AG's Scania has successfully acquired the Northvolt Systems Industrial unit. This acquisition includes production facilities, a cutting-edge data and research center, and a team of nearly 260 skilled employees dedicated to advancing battery technology for heavy industry.
A Partnership for Electrification
The newly acquired business is set to become a key partner of Scania Power Solutions, operating as an independent venture under Scania Ventures and New Business. While the financial specifics remain undisclosed, the deal marks a significant step forward in Scania's commitment to electrified solutions for off-road applications.

Northvolt's Challenges
This acquisition comes in the wake of Northvolt's financial struggles, including bankruptcy filings in Sweden and Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States, as the company sought to restructure its debt.
