EU Approves Extension of Gas Storage Rules to Bolster Energy Security
The European Commission has given the green light to extend current gas storage regulations by two years, a move aimed at enhancing the bloc's energy security and protecting it from unpredictable market fluctuations.

Flexibility and Security at the Core of New Measures
Under the Council's mandate, the 90% gas storage filling target before winter remains, but with added flexibility for member states. Key adjustments include extending the deadline from October 1 to December 1, making interim targets indicative, and permitting deviations of up to 10% during adverse market conditions.
Provisions for Persistent Market Disruptions
In cases of ongoing market disruptions, the European Commission retains the authority to authorize further deviations, ensuring member states can adapt to prolonged challenges without compromising energy security.
