
China's Passenger Car Sales Soar in March
The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) has reported a remarkable 14.4% annual increase in passenger vehicle sales for March, totaling 1.97 million units. This figure also represents a 40.1% surge from February's sales, highlighting a robust recovery and growth in the automotive sector.
New Energy Vehicles Dominate the Market
With 51.1% of all cars sold being new energy vehicles (NEVs), the sector witnessed a 38% year-over-year and 45% month-over-month growth, reaching 991,000 units. This significant shift underscores the growing consumer preference for greener alternatives in China's automotive market.
Performance of Key Automakers
Tesla Inc.'s Chinese operations experienced an 11.4% decline in sales compared to March 2024, with exports plummeting by 82.3%. In contrast, BYD Auto Co. Ltd. showcased a strong performance, with a 23% increase in sales and a 75.1% rise in exports, signaling a competitive edge in the NEV market.
