Adani Group's Landmark Achievement in Sri Lanka
The Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), led by billionaire Gautam Adani, has officially commenced operations at the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) in Sri Lanka. This significant development marks a new era in maritime trade for South Asia.

Strategic Partnership and Investment
Developed under a public-private partnership, CWIT is operated by a consortium including APSEZ, John Keells Holdings PLC, and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. The project, with a USD 800 million investment, features a 1,400-metre quay length and 20-metre depth, capable of handling 3.2 million TEUs annually.
Enhancing Regional Trade
As the first fully automated deep-water terminal in Colombo, CWIT is set to improve cargo handling and vessel turnaround times, reinforcing Colombo's status as a key transhipment hub in the region. Gautam Adani emphasized the terminal's role in placing Sri Lanka on the global maritime map and its potential to create thousands of jobs.
Confidence in Future Growth
Krishan Balendra, John Keells Group Chairperson, expressed confidence in the project's ability to enhance global trade and connectivity in the region. APSEZ, India's largest port operator, continues to expand its footprint with strategic locations across the country's coastlines.
