Germany's Trade Surplus Climbs in February
In a surprising turn of events, Germany's trade surplus expanded to €17.7 billion in February, up from €16.2 billion in January but still below the €22.6 billion recorded in February 2024. This figure also fell short of analysts' expectations, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis on Monday.
Exports and Imports Show Mixed Trends
On a seasonally adjusted basis, goods exports reached €131.6 billion, marking a 1.8% increase from January and a modest 0.1% rise year-on-year. Meanwhile, imports totaled €113.8 billion, up 0.7% month-on-month and 4.6% compared to the same period last year.
Trade Dynamics Within and Outside the EU
Germany's exports to EU countries grew by 0.5% in February to €70.2 billion, with imports jumping 2.3% to €58.6 billion. Outside the EU, exports increased by 3.2% to €61.4 billion, while imports saw a slight decline of 1%, settling at €55.2 billion.
