
Record-Breaking March for UK Car Registrations
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported a significant 12.4% annual increase in car registrations in the United Kingdom, totaling 357,103 units in March. This marks a pivotal moment in the automotive industry, especially for electric vehicles.
Shift Towards Electric Vehicles
While traditional diesel and petrol vehicle registrations saw a decline, dropping by 10.1% and 0.4% respectively, electric vehicles experienced unprecedented growth. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) surged by 43.2%, 37.9%, and 27.7% compared to March 2024.
A Milestone for Electric Cars
"March became the largest month ever for registrations of electric cars," highlighted SMMT, underscoring the shifting consumer preferences towards more sustainable transportation options.
Year-to-Date Growth
Overall, car registrations have risen by 6.4% year to date, reaching 580,502 units, signaling a robust recovery and growth in the UK automotive sector.
