Record-Breaking March for UK Car Registrations
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) announced a significant 12.4% annual increase in car registrations across the United Kingdom, totaling 357,103 units in March.

Shift Towards Greener Vehicles
While traditional diesel and petrol vehicle registrations saw declines of 10.1% and 0.4% respectively, electric vehicles (EVs) experienced a dramatic rise. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) surged by 43.2%, 37.9%, and 27.7% compared to March 2024.
"March marked the largest month ever for electric car registrations," highlighted the SMMT, underscoring the growing preference for sustainable transportation options.
Year-to-Date Growth
From the beginning of the year to March, total car registrations climbed by 6.4% year-over-year, reaching 580,502 units, signaling a robust start to the year for the automotive sector.
