ECB's Rehn Highlights Trade Protectionism as a Major Economic Risk
Olli Rehn, a member of the European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council, expressed concerns on Wednesday about the growing threat of trade protectionism to the economic outlook. This comes as United States President Donald Trump is set to announce new tariffs on European goods.
Rehn emphasized that despite the weakened growth outlook for the Eurozone, the disinflationary process is proceeding as expected. He reiterated the ECB's stance on maintaining flexibility in its monetary policy decisions, stating, "We will not commit to a particular monetary policy stance in view of considerable uncertainty and will maintain complete freedom of action in future meetings."
