Despite the distance, tremors were felt in Bangkok, leading to scenes of panic. Hundreds evacuated buildings, including hotel guests in swimwear and bathrobes, while office towers swayed noticeably. One traveler shared with CNN their fear of missing a flight due to the ensuing chaos.

In response, Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra declared Bangkok an "emergency zone," mobilizing national resources for public assistance. Tragically, a structure collapse in Chatuchak Park resulted in one fatality, with additional damage reported citywide.
