AMD Bolsters AI Capabilities with Landmark $4.9 Billion Acquisition of ZT Systems

AMD Completes Strategic Acquisition

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has successfully finalized its $4.9 billion acquisition of ZT Systems, marking a significant leap forward in its AI strategy. This move is set to introduce a groundbreaking class of AI solutions that integrate AMD's CPU, GPU, networking silicon, ROCm software, and rack-scale systems.

Financial and Leadership Implications

The acquisition is anticipated to be financially beneficial on a non-GAAP basis by year's end. In a strategic leadership move, Frank Zhang, the former Founder and CEO of ZT Systems, will join AMD as the senior vice president of ZT Manufacturing, reporting directly to Forrest Norrod, AMD's executive vice president and general manager of the Data Center Solutions business unit.

A Strategic Milestone in AI

Forrest Norrod emphasized the acquisition's role in AMD's AI strategy, stating, "This acquisition is pivotal in delivering optimized training and inferencing solutions tailored to our customers' needs, ready for large-scale deployment, and grounded in our open ecosystem approach."
