In a recent report released by Destatis, Germany's statistical office, it was revealed that the country's retail trade turnover saw a remarkable increase of 4.9% in real terms this February compared to the same month last year. This growth is adjusted for calendar and seasonal variations, showcasing a robust recovery and expansion in the retail sector.
Monthly and Annual Performance Highlights
On a monthly basis, the turnover in retail trade edged up by 0.8%, indicating steady growth. When looking at nominal terms, the figures are even more impressive, with a 5.9% surge year-on-year and a similar 0.8% rise from January to February.
Sector-Specific Insights
The food retail sector reported a modest increase of 0.8% month-on-month and a 3.3% year-on-year growth in real terms. Meanwhile, the non-food retail trade sector outperformed with a 0.6% increase from the previous month and a significant 5.2% jump compared to February 2024.
