In a recent report released by Destatis, Germany's statistical office, it was revealed that the country's retail trade experienced a notable uptick. February saw a 4.9% increase in real terms compared to the same month in the previous year. This growth is adjusted for calendar and seasonal variations, highlighting a robust recovery or expansion in the sector.
Monthly and Nominal Performance
On a monthly basis, the turnover in retail trade edged up by 0.8%, indicating steady growth. When looking at nominal terms, the scenario was even brighter with a 5.9% annual increase and a similar 0.8% rise from January to February.
Sector-wise Breakdown
The food retail sector witnessed a 3.3% year-on-year growth and a 0.8% monthly increase. Meanwhile, non-food retail trade didn't lag behind, posting a 5.2% annual and a 0.6% monthly growth, showcasing a balanced expansion across different retail segments.
