Consumer Confidence Takes a Hit
In a surprising turn of events, Italy's consumer confidence index plummeted to 95 in March from 98.8 in February, as reported by the National Institute of Statistics (Istat). This decline not only fell short of analysts' predictions but also raised eyebrows about the economic stability of the region.
Economic Indicators Show Widespread Decline
The economic climate indicator wasn't spared, dropping 7 points to 93.2, while future expectations took a 5.1-point hit, landing at 91.1. The business sector felt the pinch too, with confidence levels decreasing by 1.4 points to 93.3.
Sector-Specific Impacts
Breaking it down by sector, services took a significant blow with a 2.9-point decrease to 94.5, and manufacturing saw a modest 0.9-point drop to 86. Retail trade barely moved, losing just 0.1 points to settle at 103.9, while construction bucked the trend with a 1.2-point increase to 104.6.
