The French Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed an annual increase of 0.8% in March, as per a preliminary report by INSEE, the national statistical office. This figure mirrors February's inflation rate and slightly undercuts analyst forecasts.

Driving Factors Behind the Figures

Consumer prices edged up due to higher costs in services, particularly insurance and food. However, these rises were balanced by decreases in energy prices and, to a smaller degree, manufactured goods. Tobacco prices also saw a moderated increase compared to earlier months.

On a monthly scale, inflation is expected to climb by 0.2% in March. The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) recorded a 0.9% year-on-year growth, with a 0.2% increase from the previous month.
