Lee Shau Kee's Legacy: A $234 Million Mansion on The Peak
In a move that set the real estate world abuzz, Martin Lee, the younger son of Hong Kong's second-richest billionaire Lee Shau Kee, secured a prestigious site at 35 Barker Road on The Peak in 2010. Outbidding Chinachem Group in a private land auction, the purchase price of HK$1.82 billion (US$234.2 million) marked it as the most expensive site globally in terms of gross floor area at the time.

"The price is reasonable but it is not something bought for money," Martin Lee remarked, highlighting the unique value of the property beyond its hefty price tag. The estate, completed in 2018, boasts three luxury villas covering a total area of 26,756 square feet, a large swimming pool, and 16 parking spaces, setting a new benchmark for luxury living in one of the world's most exclusive residential markets.

Before this monumental acquisition, the Lee family resided in the Eva Court penthouse at 36 MacDonnell Road, a 22-story luxury residential building developed specifically for them and named after Lee's former wife, Lau Wai Ken. Lee Shau Kee's passing at the age of 97 marks the end of an era, but his legacy, including this magnificent estate, continues to stand as a testament to his monumental impact on Hong Kong's real estate landscape.
