Turkey Implements Short Selling Ban on Istanbul Stock Exchange to Stabilize Markets

Turkey's Bold Move to Stabilize the Istanbul Stock Exchange

In response to recent market fluctuations, Turkey's Capital Markets Board (CMB) has introduced significant measures aimed at stabilizing the Istanbul Stock Exchange. Effective March 24, 2025, until April 25, 2025, the CMB has announced a ban on short selling within the equity markets of Borsa Istanbul (BIST).

Additionally, the CMB has decided to ease regulations concerning share buybacks for public companies and equity ratio requirements in credit capital markets transactions. These steps are designed to foster a reliable, transparent, and competitive environment within the capital market, ensuring the protection of investors' rights and interests.

This strategic move by the CMB reflects a commitment to maintaining market stability and investor confidence amidst evolving economic challenges.
