UK Halts Producer Price Index Publications: A Deep Dive into the Chain-Linking Conundrum

UK Pauses Producer Price Index Publications

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the United Kingdom announced a temporary suspension in the publication of producer price indices. This decision comes in light of identified issues with the chain-linking methods utilized in calculating these indices.

"In our ongoing efforts to enhance the systems responsible for generating the Producer Price Index (PPI) and the Services Producer Price Indices (SPPI), a critical flaw in the chain-linking methodology was uncovered. Consequently, we have decided to pause the release of PPI and SPPI data, originally scheduled for March 26, until this issue is resolved," stated the ONS.

It's important to note that this pause does not affect the consumer price index (CPI), which will continue to be published as usual.
