Together, these two brands accounted for approximately 94% of India's smartphone exports, as per a market research report by Counterpoint's 'Make in India' Service.

Manufacturing Growth and Market Dynamics

Senior research analyst Prachir Singh highlighted the expected double-digit growth in smartphone manufacturing in India for 2025, alongside an increase in local value addition. The report also noted Samsung's 7% growth in 2024, driven by rising exports, and Vivo's 14% year-on-year growth, thanks to its expanded offline retail and distribution network.

Emerging Players and Strategic Partnerships

Foxconn Hon Hai saw a 19% increase in manufacturing volumes in 2024, supported by Apple. Meanwhile, OPPO experienced a 34% decline in shipments due to intense competition and its increasing reliance on contract manufacturing for OPPO and realme. On a brighter note, DBG's shipments grew double digits, fueled by partnerships with Xiaomi and realme. Tata Electronics emerged as the fastest-growing manufacturer, with a 107% year-on-year growth, driven by the production of iPhone 15 and iPhone 16.

India's Position in the Global Electronics Supply Chain

Research analyst Tanvi Sharma emphasized India's advantages as a manufacturing hub, including a vast local market, affordable labor costs, and supportive government schemes aimed at boosting local manufacturing. The overall Indian smartphone shipment reached 153 million units in 2024, with stable volume growth, according to Counterpoint's shipment tracker.
