Tesla's Cybertruck to Feature Groundbreaking Battery Technology This Year

Revolutionizing Battery Manufacturing

Tesla Inc. is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle industry with a new battery innovation for its Cybertrucks, as reported by the Information. The senior director of Tesla's battery program, Bonne Eggleston, revealed that the company plans to introduce dry cathodes, a move that promises to significantly cut down on battery manufacturing costs.

Eliminating Costly and Hazardous Processes

This innovative approach will do away with the need for expensive and dangerous wet solvents, as well as large drying ovens. Tesla estimates that this method could save up to $1 billion annually in manufacturing expenses, depending on the scale of electric vehicle production.

Overcoming Production Challenges

Despite previous setbacks in developing its own 4680 battery cells, Tesla has made substantial progress. The initial challenge was the clumpy mixture of cathode metals damaging the steel calender rollers. Tesla has since assembled multiple teams to tackle this issue, focusing on quality over speed, according to Eggleston.
