Italy's industrial sector experienced a notable increase in production this January, with a 3.2% rise compared to the previous month, as reported by the country's statistics office, Istat. This growth signals a potential turnaround for the Italian economy, despite a slight year-on-year decline of 0.6%.

Breaking Down the Numbers

Delving deeper into the data, the production of capital goods led the charge with a 4.1% increase, closely followed by intermediate goods at 4%, and consumer goods at 2.6%. However, not all sectors enjoyed growth, as energy output saw a decrease of 3.4%. On a yearly comparison, only consumer goods showed a positive trend with a 0.4% increase, while intermediate goods, capital goods, and energy output faced declines of 0.6%, 0.8%, and 0.8% respectively.
