Thailand's Fruit Export Success
Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, director-general of TPSO, highlighted the global market's rising demand for Thai fruits, attributing the success to their high quality, variety, and unique flavors. In 2024, Thailand's fresh fruit exports generated $5.15 billion in revenue, with key exports including durian, longan, mangosteen, young coconut, and mango.
Market Dynamics and Challenges
China dominated as the primary export market, accounting for 97.4% of shipments, followed by Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, and the U.S. Despite this, Poonpong pointed out the challenges posed by increased competition, especially for durian, as China began allowing imports from Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia, alongside stricter import regulations.
Strategies for Future Growth
To maintain its competitive edge, Thailand is swiftly adapting and exploring new export markets such as the U.S., Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.K. The Thai Commerce Ministry is also focusing on increasing exports by venturing into new potential markets, supporting value-added processing of agricultural products, and preparing strategies to manage fruit production, ensuring market stability.
