Canada Strikes Back: Imposes Retaliatory Tariffs on US Goods Amid Trade Tensions

Canada Imposes Tariffs on US Goods

In a bold move, the Canadian government has announced the imposition of tariffs on goods imported from the United States. This decision comes as a direct response to the tariffs previously imposed by the Trump administration. Effective from March 13, a 25% tariff will be applied to a range of US goods, totaling $20.7 billion, including essential commodities like steel and aluminum.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, pictured, emphasized the strong relationship between the two nations, stating, "Canada is the US' best friend, best neighbor, and best ally." She firmly denied any actions by Canada that could justify the US's aggressive trade measures. Joly declared Canada's stance, "We will not back down, and we will not give in to this coercion," highlighting the government's commitment to work alongside European countries in formulating a coordinated response to these tariffs.
