Indian Government Proposes Additional Rs 51,000 Crore Spending for Subsidies and Pensions

The Indian government has made a significant move by seeking parliamentary approval for an additional expenditure exceeding Rs 51,000 crore. This substantial amount is primarily allocated towards enhancing fertiliser subsidies and pensions for retired civilians and defence personnel.

Govt seeks nod for extra Rs 51,000 crore spend

In a detailed proposal, over Rs 14,000 crore is earmarked for fertiliser subsidies, addressing the agricultural sector's needs. Furthermore, the government has proposed a significant increase in pension allocations, with nearly Rs 13,500 crore for retired civilians and an additional Rs 8,500 crore to cover defence pensions.

Additionally, the supplementary demand for grants includes a technical supplementary grant or appropriation for Rs 6.3 lakh crore. This allocation is expected to be balanced by additional receipts, recoveries, or savings from central ministries and departments, showcasing a strategic approach to fiscal management.
