Vegetarian Thali Sees Cost Reduction
In a welcome development for households, the cost of preparing a vegetarian thali at home has decreased by 1% year-on-year in February, according to CRISIL's RRR (Roti Rice Rate) indicator. This reduction is attributed to lower prices of tomatoes and LPG cylinders, despite hikes in onion, potato, and vegetable oil prices.
Non-Vegetarian Thali Costs Rise Due to Chicken Prices
Conversely, the cost of a non-vegetarian thali has increased by approximately 6%, primarily due to a 15% rise in broiler (chicken) prices. This increase is a result of higher feed expenses and a rebound from last year's low prices caused by oversupply.
Month-on-Month Cost Reduction
Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian thali costs have seen a 5% decrease compared to the previous month, thanks to fresh supplies leading to price drops in key ingredients like onions, potatoes, and tomatoes. Additionally, broiler prices have fallen by an estimated 5% month-on-month, influenced by reduced demand following bird flu concerns in southern India.
