Retail Trade Volume Takes a Hit

In January, the Eurozone experienced a 0.3% decrease in retail trade volume compared to December, as reported by Eurostat. This decline was mirrored across the European Union with a 0.2% drop on a monthly basis.

Breaking Down the Sales

The sales of non-food products saw the most significant decline at 0.7%, followed by automotive fuel in specialised stores at 0.3%. However, it wasn't all negative news, as sales of food, drinks, and tobacco saw a 0.6% increase.

Yearly Growth Overview

On a yearly basis, the Eurozone and the EU saw growth in retail trade by 1.5% and 1.6% respectively. The Eurozone specifically recorded growth in sales of non-food products by 1.8%, food, drinks, and tobacco by 1.4%, and automotive fuel in specialised stores by 0.1%.
