ASML Faces Challenges as Export Controls Dampen Customer Investment in 2024

ASML Reports Impact of Export Controls on Customer Spending

In a recent annual report, ASML, the Dutch semiconductor equipment giant, highlighted the significant impact of export controls on customer demand throughout 2024. The company pointed to macroeconomic uncertainties, including issues of technological sovereignty and trade restrictions, as key factors leading to reduced capital expenditures among some clients.

With Chinese entities accounting for 36% of its sales last year now facing restrictions, ASML emphasized the cautious stance adopted by certain customers. "The current macroeconomic uncertainty, particularly around technological sovereignty and export controls, has led some of our customers to adopt a more cautious approach," the company stated.
