Microsoft Announces the End of Skype: Transition to Teams Free by May 2025

Microsoft to Discontinue Skype in Favor of Teams Free

In a significant move to streamline its communication services, Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of Skype by May 2025. The tech giant is shifting its focus towards Microsoft Teams Free, aiming to provide a more integrated communication and collaboration experience.

"To better adapt to our customers' evolving needs, we are retiring Skype to concentrate on Microsoft Teams (free), our modern communication and collaboration hub," stated Microsoft in a recent press release.

Microsoft assures that Teams will encompass many of Skype's key features, including one-on-one calls, group calls, messaging, and file sharing. The transition aims to be seamless, with Microsoft facilitating easy login to Teams using existing Skype accounts.
