US Trade Deficit Expands Significantly in January

In a surprising turn of events, the United States trade deficit surged by 25.6% to reach $153.3 billion in January, as reported by the US Census Bureau. This significant increase, amounting to $31.2 billion from December's figures, has surpassed the expectations of many analysts.

Exports and Imports See Notable Changes

Exports of goods experienced a modest rise, increasing by $3.3 billion from the previous month to total $172.2 billion. On the other hand, imports saw a substantial jump, climbing by $34.6 billion month-on-month to stand at a hefty $325.4 billion.

Wholesale Inventories on the Rise

Adding to the economic indicators, wholesale inventories also saw an upward trend, with a 0.7% increase on a monthly basis, reaching an estimated $905.2 billion by the end of January. Compared to the same month in the previous year, this figure represents a 1.1% increase.
