Meta Partners with UNESCO to Revolutionize AI Translation for Underserved Languages

Meta and UNESCO Join Forces for Advanced AI Translation

In a groundbreaking move, Meta Platforms Inc. has announced a collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to develop advanced machine intelligence (AMI) capable of human-like reasoning for tasks such as translation. This initiative aims to bolster support for languages that are currently underrepresented in artificial intelligence models.

Language Technology Partner Program

Meta is actively seeking partners for its Language Technology Partner Program. Participants are required to contribute a minimum of 10 hours of speech recordings accompanied by transcriptions, over 200 sentences of written text, and sets of sentences translated into multiple languages. This linguistic data will be integrated into AI models for speech recognition and machine translation, with the models being open-sourced and freely accessible to the public.

Open-Source Benchmark for Machine Translation

Alongside the Language Technology Partner Program, Meta has introduced an open-source benchmark designed to evaluate AI translation models. This benchmark will be available in seven languages, further facilitating the advancement and accessibility of machine translation technologies.
