Amazon Faces Legal Setback in Germany Over Nokia Patent Infringement

Legal Battle Over Streaming Technology

In a significant legal development, the Duesseldorf Regional Court has ruled against Amazon.com Inc., stating that the company has infringed upon a patent owned by Nokia Corp. This patent is crucial for streaming services, and the court's decision mandates Amazon to cease its use immediately.

Nokia's Stance on the Ruling

Nokia expressed its satisfaction with the court's decision, emphasizing the importance of Amazon securing a license under fair terms. "We welcome the decision and hope that Amazon will fulfill its obligation and agree to a license on fair terms," stated Nokia in a communication to Wirtschaftswoche, a German magazine. This legal confrontation is part of a broader strategy by Nokia, which has initiated lawsuits against Amazon in 2023 across Germany, the United Kingdom, and the European Union's Unified Patent Court.
