Meta and UNESCO Join Forces for AI Translation Breakthrough
In an ambitious move to bridge the linguistic divide in artificial intelligence, Meta Platforms Inc. has announced a groundbreaking partnership with UNESCO. This collaboration aims to develop advanced machine intelligence (AMI) capable of leveraging human reasoning for tasks such as translation, with a special focus on languages that are currently underrepresented in AI models.

Calling for Global Participation in the Language Technology Partner Program
Meta is actively seeking contributors for its Language Technology Partner Program. Participants are encouraged to provide over 10 hours of speech recordings, transcriptions, written texts of more than 200 sentences, and sets of sentences translated into various languages. This rich linguistic data will be instrumental in enhancing AI models for speech recognition and machine translation, which Meta pledges to make open source and freely available to the public.
Introducing an Open-Source Benchmark for Machine Translation
In addition to the Language Technology Partner Program, Meta has unveiled an open-source benchmark designed to evaluate AI translation models. This benchmark will be accessible in seven languages, setting a new standard for the development and assessment of machine translation technologies.
