Sector Highlights and Unemployment Rates

The healthcare sector led the way with an addition of 44,000 jobs, closely followed by retail trade and social assistance, which added 34,000 and 22,000 jobs respectively. The unemployment rate saw a slight decrease from 4.1% in December to 4% in January, with the total number of unemployed individuals standing at 6.8 million.

Wages and Workweek Insights

On the earnings front, average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls increased by 17 cents to $35.87. Additionally, the average workweek saw a slight uptick, rising by 0.1 hours to 34.1 hours. These figures highlight a steady, if modest, improvement in worker compensation and productivity.
