Canada's Response to US Tariffs
In a bold move, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Canada will impose a 25% tariff on a range of American goods. This decision comes as a direct response to the United States President Trump's tariffs on Canadian goods and energy resources.
The Canadian government plans to implement these "far-reaching" tariffs on $155 billion worth of American products. Starting Tuesday, tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods will take effect, with additional tariffs to follow in 21 days. This phased approach is designed to give Canadian companies and supply chains time to adjust and seek alternatives.
Among the affected goods are beer, wine, bourbon, fruits and fruit juices, vegetables, perfumes, clothing, and shoes. Trudeau also mentioned that non-tariff measures concerning critical minerals and procurement are under consideration.
