Madhubani Art Takes Center Stage on Budget Day
On a significant Budget day, the elegance of Telugu poetry was beautifully complemented by the traditional Madhubani art from Bihar. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a striking style statement by donning a cream silk sari adorned with Madhubani artwork, a gift from Padma Shri awardee Dulari Devi.
Dulari Devi, a teacher at Darbhanga's National Institute of Mithila Art, expressed her joy over the finance minister's choice to honor Madhubani art on such a prestigious occasion. The sari, featuring floral motifs and fish in muted colors, took a month to complete and reflects the rich traditions of the Mithila region.
Budget 2025 Highlights
This year's budget brought significant updates, including changes in income tax slabs, with no income tax for earnings up to Rs 12 lakh. The finance minister's speech also highlighted major tax changes and an increase in FDI to 100% in the insurance sector.
Madhubani Art: A Cultural Heritage
Madhubani art, also known as Mithila art, is a traditional painting style from Bihar, characterized by intricate motifs and designs. Traditionally practiced by women, this art form has become a symbol of cultural pride and heritage.
FM Sitharaman's choice of saris and verses has become a notable aspect of her budget presentations, showcasing India's diverse cultural tapestry. From Mangalagiri silk to Tussar silk with Kantha embroidery, each sari tells a story of India's rich textile heritage.
