Congress Slams Union Budget for Bihar Bonanza, Andhra Pradesh Neglect
In a recent turn of events, the Congress party has openly criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Union Budget for 2025-26, accusing it of favoring Bihar with a host of announcements while cruelly ignoring Andhra Pradesh. This criticism comes amidst the BJP's strategic moves ahead of the upcoming elections in Bihar, where it seeks re-election for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The budget, which has been a subject of intense scrutiny and debate, includes several measures aimed at bolstering Bihar's infrastructure and economy. These include the establishment of four new greenfield airports, a National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, and financial support for the Western Kosi Canal project. Critics argue that these announcements are politically motivated, given the impending elections.
Key Budget Highlights and Criticisms
Among the notable announcements were a new Income Tax bill aimed at simplifying the current system, an increase in foreign direct investment in the insurance sector to 100%, and support for India’s marine sector. However, the opposition has pointed out the lack of attention to critical welfare policies, such as the inclusion of breakfast in schools and an increase in honorarium for Anganwadi workers, which have been long-standing demands.
Ramesh, a prominent critic, also highlighted the government’s decision to amend the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010, as a move to appease foreign interests, contrasting it with the BJP's previous stance under Arun Jaitley.
Looking Ahead
As the political landscape heats up, the Union Budget's implications for the upcoming elections and its long-term impact on India's economic and social fabric remain to be seen. With significant allocations for Bihar for the second consecutive year, the focus is now on how these measures will translate into electoral gains and developmental outcomes.
