Union Budget 2025 Unveils Major Boost for Farmers: Kisan Credit Card Loan Limit Doubles to Rs 5 Lakh

Government Announces Significant Increase in Kisan Credit Card Loan Limit

In a landmark announcement during the Union Budget 2025-26 presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed a substantial increase in the loan ceiling under the modified interest subvention (MIS) scheme from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans. This move is set to enhance financial access and support for millions of farmers across the nation, including those involved in fisheries and dairy sectors.

Comprehensive Support for Agricultural and Fisheries Sectors

The budget also outlines improvements to the KCC scheme, initiatives to boost urea production, and the launch of a five-year Mission for Cotton Productivity aimed at significantly enhancing the productivity and sustainability of cotton farming. Furthermore, a new urea facility with an annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes will be established in Namrup, Assam, to strengthen domestic fertiliser production and reduce import reliance.

Empowering Farmers and Strengthening the Textile Sector

Aligned with the government's integrated 5F vision for the textile sector (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign), the Mission for Cotton Productivity is designed to increase farmers' incomes and ensure a steady supply of quality cotton for the rejuvenation of India's traditional textile sector. Additionally, a framework for sustainable fisheries utilization from India's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and high seas will benefit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep Islands, leveraging untapped marine resources for economic development and employment generation in coastal areas.

India, being the second-largest fish producer globally, with aquaculture and seafood exports reaching Rs 60,000 crore, stands to gain significantly from these initiatives, ensuring a brighter future for its farmers and fishermen.
