Japan's retail trade experienced a slight decrease in December, with a 0.7% drop compared to the previous month, totaling ¥16.1 trillion (~$104.4 billion). This data comes from a recent report by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Annual Growth Despite Monthly Dip

Despite the monthly decline, the annual sales value saw a 3.7% increase. The total value of commercial sales for the year reached ¥57.2 trillion, with a 3.6% rise in the number of goods sold compared to December 2023.

Wholesale Industry Shows Steady Growth

The wholesale industry also showed positive signs, with the seasonally adjusted value of sales hitting ¥41 trillion, marking a 3.5% increase from the previous year.
