Tesla's Ambitious Plans for Optimus Humanoid Robot
During Tesla's recent earnings call, CEO Elon Musk unveiled the company's ambitious production targets for its Optimus humanoid robot. Musk outlined a phased approach, starting with an initial production of 1,000 units per month, with plans to scale up to 10,000 and eventually 100,000 units monthly. He also hinted at the possibility of delivering the second version of the robot to external companies by the latter half of next year.
Future Production and Cost Predictions
Musk is optimistic about the future of Optimus, predicting that annual production could surpass 1 million units. At this scale, he believes the production cost could drop below $20,000 per unit. Drawing a comparison to Tesla's Model Y, which boasts an annual production exceeding a million units, Musk suggested that Optimus could be produced at about half the cost. However, he emphasized that the ultimate price of the robot would be determined by market demand, highlighting Tesla's flexible pricing strategy in response to consumer interest and demand.
